The News, Eats & Events Shaping Western New York

Western New York is set to celebrate Dyngus Day on Monday, April 6, 2026, with vibrant festivities showcasing Polish heritage.

 

The Dyngus Day Buffalo Festival launches in the Historic Polonia District at noon, offering lively polka music, traditional cuisine, and cultural performances.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the 20th Annual Dyngus Day Parade will tour Broadway with over 100 floats and participants honoring the region’s Polish-American roots.

 

North Tonawanda’s Canal Street Pavilion hosts its own Dyngus Day Parade and post-parade party at 5:00 p.m., complete with music, dance, and authentic Polish fare.

 

For active revelers, the Dyngus Day Dash 5K starts at noon, with registration encouraging festive red and white attire.

 

Cloudy skies and cool temperatures are expected, so attendees should dress warmly and prepare for light evening rain.

 

This cherished tradition continues to unite communities in celebration of Polish culture, music, and local pride.

The 12th annual Buffalo's Best Kielbasa Contest brought lively crowds to Potts Banquet Hall in Cheektowaga on March 28, 2026, spotlighting the culinary skills of 27 sausage makers from across Western New York.

 

Guests enjoyed upbeat performances by Captain Tom & The Hooligans and hearty fare from Potts Deli & Grille, celebrating Buffalo’s proud Polish heritage.

 

Award winners included Keith Bednarz and Michael Martinez, with categories ranging from fresh and smoked traditional to creative non-traditional recipes.

 

Organizer Tod Kniazuk and Council Member Mitch Nowakowski championed the event, highlighting its role in preserving family traditions and strengthening the region’s Easter festivities.

 

Supported by local sponsors and judged by chefs and community leaders, the contest showcased the spirit and passion of Buffalo’s Polish community.

 

The event reaffirmed homemade kielbasa as a beloved staple, uniting generations in a flavorful, cultural celebration that will continue to thrive.
